Updated 8/25 morning: 

Continued good performance over the last 24 hours confirms the changes have resolved the login issues.  Users should not be affected by suboptimal login performance any longer.  We’re sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

Monday morning we became aware of technical issues preventing some users from logging into our site during peak periods (roughly from 8-10:30am central).  The issues subsided later in the morning, and recurred again on Tuesday.

 

Senior members of our technical team have been working hard to restore regular system operation.  We already deployed hotfixes which delivered temporary relief to most users. For tomorrow (Wednesday), we released much improved login code, which has been successful in the lab under simulation.  We also deployed additional hardware to help mitigate any new issues. We should know whether the latest changes are successful by 9am.

 

Some suggestions for customers, in case the issues are not completely resolved tomorrow:

 

  1. The issue only affects login during peak periods.  We suggest logging in before the morning peak, say by 7:30am (central).  Stay logged in (don’t log out).  

  2. In most cases login is slow but eventually successful (after a couple of minutes). You’ll likely have better results if you attempt login once and wait until it finishes (don’t retry repeatedly).

  3. Much of the pain experienced by users was during morning attendance.  In case the issues persist, it might be helpful to print out roster(s) and/or jot down absences that could be entered later.

  4. Be aware that the issue previously subsided between 10-11am (central).  If you can’t login, try accessing the system again later.
